Family practitioners perform most of a full scope of Family Practitioners FP. The exceptions are no OB, no colposcopy (OB/GYN) physicians and a women’s health nurse practitioner perform these procedures), and no office splinting/casting (three orthopedists in town, plus a fully staffed ER, so little sense to keep all the supplies in the office for infrequent use). Most of our FP’s perform minor office surgery and treat patients of all ages. Sports medicine is an option for FP’s. One of our FP’s also performs vasectomies in the office.
The typical workday is 8:00-5:00, plus charting and so on. Office patients are scheduled 8:30-11:45 A.M. and 1:00-4:45 P.M.. Physicians are usually out of the last patients room by 5:00.
When you depart for the evening is a matter of how you prefer to keep up with your Centricity entries, clinical phone calls, and other paperwork (all at once or in ! between every few patients); most physicians leave for the day! within 30-90 minutes of seeing their last patient. On the other hand, some doctors prefer to leave sooner and finish paperwork and other documentation tasks in the morning, before 8:30.
Depending on where you live in the community, you may have the
option to access Centricity over a high speed internet connection, enabling you to complete your daily charting and check your electronic desktop from home at your convenience. (Unfortunately, not all of our rural communities offer high speed internet access.) We're flexible. A typical office day is 16-22 patients, depending on the mix of appointment types.
Practitioners also conduct evening office hours once a month on a fixed day. On your assigned day, you see office patients 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the early morning hours off. Approximately every 6 weeks FP physicians also take part in Saturday office hours (8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.). When you work on a Saturday you will receive a half-day off from your Mo! nday to Friday schedule during that pay period.
We also see patients at two local nursing homes and at home (providers average 1-5 home visits per month). Such visits are built into physicians’ schedules
Full-time status is five days per week with NO after-hours call (this is taken care of by the hospitalists on duty at AVH). All primary care practitioners are salaried for the first 18 months of employment.
As of 7/1/07 we implemented a new Performance Based Compensation Plan that has a potential for substantial additional income (this plan provided separately).
