Reports to Clinical Nurse Manager

- Responsible for supporting the Clinical Nurse Manager in administrative duties of the unit, especially during off shifts.
- Collaborates with members of the health care team to maintain standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.
- Participates in organizational and unit based quality improvement activities, and provide input on standards of care.
- Responsible for supporting the Clinical Nurse Manager in the daily oversight of the Neonatal Intensive Care and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
- Assumes overall responsibility of the unit in the absence of the NICU/PICU Clinical Nurse Manager.
- Share accountability with manager for unit/department/organizational goals achieveme! nt.
- Fulfills responsibility to the organization by ad! hering to its philosophy, policies, and procedures and by supporting its mission and goals.
- In conjunction with the Clinical Nurse Manager participates in Staff Management to include recruitment, coaching, training, evaluation and development.
- Provides managerial support as required.
- Develops, implements and participates in Quality Improvement Processes activities.
- Works with members of the health care team in activities designed to improve patient care outcomes.
- Provides leadership and serves as a resource in the provision of patient care and unit activities.
- Assists staff in development of problem solving and decision making skills.
- Maintains all records pertaining to the staff competency and quality audits and other related records.
- Serves as a professional role model, coach, and resource for employees.
- Participates actively in Nursing and/or hospital committees and work groups.
- Mai! ntains compliance with regulatory agency standards.
- Accepts patient assignments as required.
- Assists in maintaining appropriate staffing assignments for current and upcoming shifts using budgeted guidelines.
- Controls overtime and supply costs.
- Assists in the identification of capital needs and justification.
- Investigates patient complaints and follows through on variance reports and corrective measures in collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Manager.
